Inspiration
What inspired me was the idea of being ahead of the curve—to be among the first to build something that I strongly believe is inevitable: a true AI family assistant. In a world where smart homes and digital tools are becoming standard, I wanted to create something more human, more helpful—something that feels like part of the family. That’s how Kora was born.
Kora isn’t just a chatbot. She’s designed to be a warm, intuitive, and deeply integrated family assistant who doesn’t just answer questions—she helps manage life.
What it does
Modern families juggle a lot—Kora brings simplicity, structure, and a smile to every household.
- Plan & Manage Family Events Create, view, update, and delete family events
Automatically schedules events and sends reminders
Conversational interface to ask things like “Plan a movie night for Friday”
🧹 2. Assign & Track Chores Assign chores to family members by voice or text
Keep track of who’s doing what
Get reminders like “Has Jamie done the dishes today?”
🍽️ 3. Suggest Dinner Ideas Provides dinner suggestions based on preferences
Simple natural prompts like “What should we eat tonight?”
🧠 4. Emotional Check-Ins Kora checks in on how family members are feeling
Asks wellness-related questions to promote emotional support
Responds empathetically and conversationally
💬 5. Friendly Conversation Natural, warm dialogue
Maintains personality across interactions
Can chat like a real family member—not robotic
🛠️ 6. Full CRUD Capabilities Can create, read, update, and delete:
Events
Chores
Notes or to-do tasks (if enabled)
Uses smart prompts like “Remind me to clean the garage tomorrow”
🧪 7. Therapy Mode (Beta) Offers basic family therapy-like conversations
Supports mental wellness by providing thoughtful, kind responses
Ideal for check-ins and emotional support (not a replacement for real therapy)
How I built it
I combined various AI tools and development platforms to bring Kora to life:
ChatGPT for coding logic and feature integration
Claude for troubleshooting bugs and logic fixes
Bolt.new as my development environment for rapid prototyping
Groq API / LLMs for fast, conversational intelligence
ElevenLabs for Text to Voice
Tavus for video therapy sessions with KORA
TypeScript & modern full-stack tools for backend and UI integration
Kora is built to understand natural language, perform CRUD operations for events and chores, and respond in a way that feels natural, spoken, and warm.
Challenges I ran into
This wasn’t easy. I ran into:
Major build and deploy issues under tight deadlines
Persistent bugs while giving Kora full app access (create, update, delete)
Feature limitations due to third-party service costs (e.g., online search, booking APIs)
Balancing AI personality vs. technical functionality
Despite these hurdles, I pushed forward, focused on delivering a solid beta, and made sure Kora feels usable and delightful, even in her early form.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
One of the most rewarding moments of this project came during testing. I gave Kora to a few of my friends, and to my surprise, she did more than just schedule events or assign chores—she helped them feel better.
Kora's thoughtful responses and emotionally aware conversations brought comfort to people. It gave me a warm feeling inside to know that something I built could genuinely support someone's mental well-being. That moment made it all real—it wasn’t just a hackathon project anymore. It was something people actually needed.
What I learned
Throughout this journey, I discovered just how transformative AI can be—not just for users, but for developers too. Leveraging tools like ChatGPT for generating functional scripts, Claude for debugging, and Bolt.new for writing clean code dramatically accelerated my workflow.
I realized that AI isn't just the product—it's part of the process. It was like working with a team that never sleeps.
What's next for Kora AI-Powered Family Assistant
This is just the beginning.
In future versions, I envision Kora:
Searching for restaurants, events, and local services
Making calls, booking appointments, and managing subscriptions
Integrating with IoT devices to control lights, alarms, or home automation
Existing as a physical AI hub—a screen or tablet placed on a kitchen wall or shared space, where families can easily interact with her
Kora isn’t just a project. She’s a glimpse of the future of AI in our homes. My hope is to evolve her into something that helps families not just stay organized, but stay connected.
