Inspiration
We were inspired by games. Games are fun and engaging and we wanted to bring that fun into learning.
What it does
Gone are the days where we just listen to lectures as our teachers go through powerpoint slides! Here's the new way of learning. Students can test their knowledge by answering short quizes relating to the lessons taught by the teachers. Answering each question correctly gives each student a code, which they will then put together to leave the escape room!
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS and Javascript to build an interactive WebApp catering to students and teachers to make learning online more fun and exciting! How it works: We have 5 different kind of questions:
- Multiple choice Questions
- True or False
- Fill-in-the=Blanks
- Interactive experiment
- Speech Bubbles
How it works
The player hovers around the screen to find the questions and attempts them If answered correctly, the student receives a paper with a code on it and/or and item that can help him retrieve the next question. At the end when the student has all the papers of code, he can enter the code and escape the room. At the end of the lesson, clicking on the clock will show a place where students can submit their ideas/thoughts and anything they learnt. This will help teachers ensure that the students have learnt key concepts taught in the lesson.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenge was the making our webapp interactive in the timeframe we were given, as we wanted to make the user experience a great one.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we managed to complete the project despite many setbacks and within a short period of time. We even learned more about HTML, CSS and Javascript!
What we learned
We learned a lot about how these kind of interfaces are made. While doing our escape room, we learnt a lot more about coding and how different types of codes will bring out better results.
What's next for koolkids - iEscape Room
Usage of data to better understand the learning needs of the students. Through tracking the amount of time students spend on each question. Through observing which questions students get wrong. Through observing which questions are easier for them and which are harder. The above mentioned can help teachers identify which areas the students are stron ger in and plan their lessons accordingly. A multiplayer component to facilitate collaborative learning between classmates. A leaderboard feature which would drive the students to constantly better themselves in order to climb up the ranks.
