Welcome to our project
We are a team of mexican girls with a strong focus on the well-being and improvement of the lives of women around the world. We perceive ourselves as an engine of change for good.
Inspiration
We were inspired to work on this topic because we have seen women close to us lose their lives due to health-related prejudices and biases. We feel a great responsibility to help change this situation and are happy to contribute our bit. We believe that young women who use their mobile phones can be our allies in breaking down taboos, biases, and barriers. We are also enthusiastic about the idea that this project can help female doctors conducting research by allowing them to publish their studies, find volunteers, and share their results, thus addressing the issue of insufficient information in certain regions.
What it does
In our application, we want women to ask their health-related questions and receive recommendations based on artificial intelligence through a chatbot format. We aim for our system to recognize patterns that indicate when a user's health is at risk and, in such cases, suggest clinics or health centers so they can seek timely prevention and care.
Additionally, we want to support women in the medical field and research by recommending that app users participate in studies near their locality. In this way, we can improve the quality of life for all women through more specialized, less invasive, more humane studies, reflecting the progress of our application in statistics.
How we built it
Koolebel (a shortened form of K'ooleebeel, which means "Good Women" in Mayan) is an application designed in Figma, coded with the Flet framework, utilizing Gemini AI for artificial intelligence, and storing data in Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
In this project, we faced multiple obstacles, from learning new technologies to coordinating our teamwork with busy schedules. Each member, despite their personal challenges, gave their best, and we feel like a participative team.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We take pride in our effort, our intention, the design, and what we achieved with the application.
What we learned
We learned to organize ourselves, listen, and respect each different idea. We learned about new technologies and the current issues women face. We believe this last point was the most impressing, and some of us are sure we will continue supporting and participating in such events.
What's next for Koolebel
We hope Koolebel does not end with the hackathon deadline; we plan to complete the application structure and soon bring it to production for the benefit of women.
