Inspiration My greatest inspiration for building the job-finding web application stems from a deep passion for addressing the significant issue of youth unemployment in Nigeria. According to recent statistics, the youth unemployment rate in Nigeria is alarmingly high, with about 8.6% of youths aged 15-24 years being unemployed as of Q3 2023 (Channels TV). Additionally, 13.7% of Nigerian youths are not in employment, education, or training (NEET) (National Bureau of Statistics).
I am particularly motivated by unemployment's impact on our country's socio-economic development. The high unemployment rate leads to increased poverty, reduced quality of life, and limited opportunities for personal and professional growth among the youth. By creating a web application that connects job seekers with potential employers, I aim to bridge the gap between talent and opportunities, thereby reducing the unemployment rate and fostering a more robust and inclusive economy. What it does Konnect is a web application designed to reduce youth unemployment in Nigeria by offering personalized job recommendations, skill development resources, career counseling, and employer connections, empowering young people to find meaningful employment and enhance their career prospects. How we built it Konnect is built using React for the frontend, Tailwind CSS for styling, and Node.js for the backend, with Express for the API. MongoDB is used for the database, and we deployed it on Vercel, ensuring a responsive, scalable, and efficient job-finding platform. Challenges we ran into We ran into some challenges such as responsiveness, integration of some features, User experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud of the fact that we started the project and finished it successfully, despite the challenges we encountered
What we learned We learned about time management, teamwork, and appreciation of one's effort no matter how little
What's next for Konnect We hope to expand, to be able to accommodate more people in the future, and we also hope to add more features to help people get their dream jobs
