Inspiration

The viking kings Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth wrote their stories on the runestones in Jelling, which have preserved their stories until the present. The idea of this project is to allow for the guests at the museum to write their names on runestones, kind of like a guestbook.

What it does

Guests can scan NFC tag at various location to connect to a Bluetooth microcontroller and open an app for writing their names or messages. When the guest finishes writing the text, it will appear on the stone along with other recent messages in runic script.

How we built it

There is a server, which receives messages through a Bluetooth microcontroller. The server transliterates the text into runic script for it to be displayed on the runestone. A NFC tag can be scanned with a phone to quickly access the app to write the rune on the stone. It is not required that the user downloads an app from the App Store as usual, instead the app clip open instantly on the user phone when scanning the NFC tag.
