Inspiration

We wanted to make something that would be useful to people, but also something that could be applied in every day life. Kollide.me was the simple answer.

How it works

Kollide.me connects you with others near your location to attend events like hackathons, concerts, casual sports leagues, and other activities with. We noticed that people who didn't have teams seemed a little anxious about attending HackRPI, so we made a platform (for many different events and activities) that would help them join a team or others who needed a group.

Challenges I ran into

It was challenging managing the API's we had never used before, developing a solid and simple to use design, and coding a back-end that could drive the functionality we need without over-complicating the application. Our team was 75% first time hackathoners, so we didn't necessarily know what we were getting into, but we are happy with our results.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're proud that we were able to start HackRPI off with a solid idea that we were all passionate about, and were able to develop a solid base product in the 24 hours that we had. We had very good team chemistry, and the creation of Kollide.me was ultimately an incredibly fun experience.

What I learned

We learned the effectiveness of a solid project outline going into something this complicated, and we most certainly learned the benefits of a positive team environment. We came to have fun and I think that drove our hack.

What's next for Kollide.me

We intend to flesh the app out more, and increase the functionality of the app so that it can be easily distributed. We also hope that Kollide.me will be able to help people connect and find different opportunities in possibly unfamiliar areas, maybe even volunteering oppurtunities at events involving homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
