Inspiration

As final year Computer Science students, we've watched friends struggle with creator-brand partnerships. Creators undervalue themselves in DM negotiations, while brands spend weeks searching for the right fit. The Southeast Asian creator economy is booming, but discovery remains broken. We wondered: what if finding brand partnerships was as simple as swiping right?

What it does

Kollab transforms creator-brand matching into an intuitive, Tinder-style experience. Creators showcase their authentic work through rich profiles, while brands swipe through potential partners based on audience fit, niche, and engagement. When both parties swipe right, a match is made and collaboration conversations can begin. No more cold DMs, no more endless searching - just meaningful connections between SEA creators and brands looking for genuine partnerships.

How we built it

We built Kollab using modern web technologies, focusing on creating a smooth swiping experience that felt natural and responsive. The frontend handles the card-based matching interface, while our backend manages user profiles, matching logic, and real-time updates. We integrated APIs to pull creator metrics and implemented smart algorithms to suggest relevant matches based on audience demographics and engagement patterns.

Challenges we ran into

Almost everything was a challenge! UI design proved trickier than expected, making cards feel smooth and responsive while displaying meaningful creator data. The swiping mechanics required multiple iterations to get right. API integration tested our problem-solving skills as we navigated rate limits and data formatting. Even settling on the core idea took hours of brainstorming. And don't get us started on prompting - getting AI to understand creator-brand fit required careful prompt engineering.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're incredibly proud of shipping a working MVP in just one day. Despite the technical hurdles, we built something that actually functions and solves a real problem. More importantly, we're proud of the idea itself, identifying a genuine pain point in the creator economy and designing an elegant solution. Seeing the swiping interface come together and realizing "this could actually help people" was an amazing feeling.

What we learned

Hackathons teach you to move fast and iterate quickly. We learned that sometimes the best solutions come from simplifying complex problems, turning creator discovery into a familiar, game-like experience. Technically, we gained hands-on experience with API integration, UI responsiveness, and prompt engineering. But most importantly, we learned that building something meaningful is possible even when you're figuring it out as you go.

What's next for Kollab project

We want to validate the concept with real creators and brands across Southeast Asia. Next steps include user interviews, refining the matching algorithm based on feedback, and exploring monetization through premium features for brands. Long-term, we envision Kollab becoming the go-to platform for authentic creator partnerships in SEA, where fair collaborations happen naturally, and both creators and brands win.
