🧠 Inspiration I grew up playing Pokémon and always dreamed of creating my own version — multiplayer, with my own story and systems. This hackathon gave me the perfect excuse to start.
🎮 What it does Kokemon is a real-time multiplayer game inspired by Pokémon. It features a working battle system, player interaction, and a test map to explore.
🛠️ How we built it The game was built using Phaser for the client, WebSockets for real-time communication, and a Node.js + SQLite backend to manage players and battles.
🧱 Challenges we ran into Syncing multiplayer state in real time Handling WebSocket events without race conditions Structuring battle logic to support both players fairly
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of Real-time battle system up and running Custom multiplayer backend built in just a few days A working foundation for future expansion
📚 What we learned Deepened understanding of WebSocket architecture Improved Phaser and game logic structuring Learned to scope features quickly under pressure
🚀 What's next for Kokemon Game Test Add an overworld with NPCs and quests Design more battle mechanics and skills Expand to support matchmaking and persistent accounts
While there are still some bugs and unfinished features, this project serves as a great canvas for future improvements. It's just the beginning — and there's a lot of potential ahead!
