Inspiration
I was inspired by the unspoken yet persistent dress-code pressures in Japan — heels, skirts, no glasses. I wanted to expand the artistic universe of my digital jpop band Joshi Riot with this second MV Clip created in august 2025. I wanted to subvert these norms through pop, irony, and sharp visual storytelling.
What it does
KŌKAN SHIYŌ (Let's Switch Places) is a satirical, AI-generated Jpop music video reversing gender expectations. It's really commited and resonates with Japanese working culture. It blends choreographed office chaos with aesthetic resistance: men in heels, Riot girls in revolt.
How I built it
I used generative AI tools (before Nano Banana existed) to design characters, environments, and moods.
Visuals were manually stabilized and edited in DaVinci Resolve.
Vocals and lyrics were generated using AI and refined for flow, emotion, and rhythm.
Challenges I ran into
- No Nano Banana: character consistency was unstable
- Prompting was chaotic and required dozens of iterations (Photoshop + many combinations)
- Scene-to-scene continuity had to be rebuilt step by step and was almost impossible at the time
- AI outputs often clashed with narrative intent
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Delivered a consistent visual narrative under early AI limitations
- Defined the tone and visual grammar of the Joshi Riot project
- Turned social critique into engaging, layered visual music content
- Made a full consistent MV Clip with storytelling, unique Art Direction, Original Music and overall uniqueness.
What I learnt
- Subversion through aesthetics is powerful
- Expanding from one idea to a whole consistent project
- Becoming better at creating professionnal level of visuals and edit
- AI workflows demand alot of pre production, intuition, emotion, and clear concept design
- Technical limitations can enhance creativity if embraced fully
- I really enjoy bringing my band to next levels of quality
What's next for KŌKAN SHIYŌ — JOSHI RIOT | Jpop AI Music Video
I'm developing a hybrid feminist pop universe using AI as a visual and narrative engine.
KŌKAN SHIYŌ led to my third video, The Contest, with stronger tools and identity.
Next: Looking for producers, fundings and broadcasters**.
