Inspiration

Hello! We're Jessica, Kathy, and Leslie, and we're current USC students with a passion for coding! During AthenaHacks 2024, we decided to develop a web application that helps minimize distraction and helps students (like us!) stay focused.

What it does

We've created this studying website with a variety of resources utilizing HTML/Javascript to implement key tools for a successful studying session! Our program was created with the intent can help you stay focused and enjoy the process of learning.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Javascript was the main backend although we also thought of implementing some Raspberry Pi components using Python.

Challenges we ran into

There was a learning curve for us because it was our first time working with HTML/JS/CSS which as a result ended up eating up most of our time. In addition, another challenge we faced was implementing the Google Calendar API. There were privacy issues that we couldn't overcome within the limited amount of time, so this is something we'd like to work on in the future. Another challenge we tried to fix was the implementation of the Raspberry Pi. There were issues with the network so we couldn't integrate it fully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of our product despite some flaws. Before this hackathon, none of us had experience in the languages we used. We took the first few hours to learn about each language and it was a time consuming and hard learning curve, but I'm proud of all of us for persevering through it and creating such a cute product.

What we learned

We learned what it was like to participate in our first hackathon! Although there was a time crunch, we were able to learn new hard skills like HTML/CSS and grew as team players.

What's next for Koi-tivity

We'd love to work on improving our UI design and focusing on sharpening the current tools we provide for our users! We hope to allow users to embed their own Spotify playlists and allow users to log in to keep track of personal customizations and past data.
