As a person who's done a lot of gardening, one of the biggest obstacles I ran into was my lack of knowledge. No matter how much I searched, I couldn't find any help on the specifics of growing my plant, as I also didn't even have enough knowledge to know what to search for.
Our program lets users take a picture of their plant, and from this, we determine its ripeness, and we give instructions on watering, sunlight, and soil. We also give extra advice based on whatever stage their plant is at.
We used python, importing Python Image Library, the Numpy module, and the OpenCV module.
Because our program uses image recognition, learning about this concept was a huge task. Simply downloading the OpenCV module took us hours, and then we had to learn how to use all of the extra modules we imported and understand how to write a program that perfectly our goals.
We were able to be resilient with learning new modules and concepts of Python. It was extremely time-consuming, as we laboured for hours trying to understand how all of these work, and as fairly new programmers, this was very arduous work. When we finally figured out how to get our image recognition working, we were overjoyed and proud of ourselves.
We learned how to download and run many different python modules, image recognition tools, and numerical tools.
Our software can be implemented into an application or website with a clear user interface that is easily accessible for the user. In the future, we plan on it being capable of giving feedback for the growth of a multitude of different plants. Our software can also be developed further to be used as a guide to help people decide which plants they can plant based on their location, time of year, budget, dietary needs and restrictions and lifestyle. This can help them decide what plants they can plant in their backyard and will give them a solid plan on how to go about planting them. Our program will help users pick which plants they can plant to better their health and prevent diseases
