Inspiration
After spending the past two years online, our team has felt that an application needed to be built to help students focus on their work and maintain productivity. It gets exhausting having to stare at a screen all day, and we wanted to create an application that was simple and easy to use. We aimed to create a website that motivates students like us to stay focused and finish tasks without feeling drained.
What it does
Koala-Doro implements the Pomodoro study method and allows users to personalize their study and break times. Users are able to add tasks to the to-do list and delete/strikeout finished tasks. The website also has an embedded Spotify player where users can listen to a wide variety of lo-fi songs.
How we built it
The website was coded entirely in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We created the framework of the website using HTML and were able to program the features of the timer using on click functions. Various elements on the website were sized, colored, and designed through CSS.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was coding a timer that changed based on a user's desired amount of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of our to-do list feature because it allows users to add countless tasks, strike out a completed item, and even delete it from the list! We were also elated that we were able to incorporate a timer that could be changed by the user!
What we learned
Through creating this project, we were able to advance our skills in web development by coding in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We learned how to use flexbox to organize content on our webpage.
What's next for Koala-Doro
In the future, we hope to implement additional features onto Koala-Doro: a calendar that allows users to add events throughout the day, easily accessible templates, and an online journal. We also hope to incorporate different audios within the website, such as a loud beep sound when the timer runs up.
