lets you start and stop your study time . Useful for tracking your time as per your choice .

The uploaded materials show at the bottom for confirmation , the file shows processed , uploaded , or not found based on the activity
The quiz starts and based on the answer the learner provided gives a small answer about it , after the quiz ends it provides result

The adaptive quiz lets you select the subject or material you want to generate a quiz for . The learner can click on the ask ai for tutor .
The learner can decide the difficulty level as per their choice and get the question
The quiz history gets updated in the learning progress automatically after the quiz ends ,
The learner gets to see their complete summary based on the activities they did
The progress section shows the weak and mastered topics with quiz history and bars and graphs
The course material lets the learner see all the materials they uploaded till now , with an extracted summary done by the text extraction
The setttings page lets the learner select their preferences while the search bar lets them search through their materials

Inspiration

Students often struggle to organize study materials, identify important concepts, connect topics, and revise efficiently. Generic AI chatbots may also provide answers that are not grounded in course content.

We built Knowvia to make learning more organized, personalized, and accessible through AI.

What Knowvia Does

Knowvia is an AI-powered study companion that helps students learn from their own materials.

Learning Material Ingestion: Upload PDF, DOCX, and PPTX files or provide YouTube links.
Content Extraction: Extract text from documents, retrieve YouTube transcripts, and transcribe audio when needed.
AI Tutor: Ask questions and receive answers using uploaded learning content through the Google Gemini API.
Adaptive Quizzes: Practice with quizzes and code-defined difficulty logic.
Learning Dashboard: View study activity, quiz history, and progress information.
Personalized Experience: Adjust preferences such as language, learning style, and daily study goals.
Topic Organization: Improving how major topics, subtopics, key concepts, and prerequisites are identified and connected.

How We Built It

We developed Knowvia using a full-stack architecture:

Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, HTML, and CSS.
Backend: Python and FastAPI.
AI Integration: Google Gemini API for AI-powered tutoring.
Document Processing: "pypdf", "python-docx", and "python-pptx".
YouTube Support: "youtube-transcript-api" for transcript extraction.
Audio Processing: "yt-dlp", FFmpeg, and "faster-whisper" for audio handling and transcription when needed.
API Integration: REST endpoints connect the frontend with backend features.

AI Evaluation with RAGAS

We added RAGAS to evaluate the reliability of our retrieval-augmented generation pipeline.

Evaluate how faithfully answers reflect retrieved context.
Assess answer relevancy.
Measure retrieval quality using configured metrics such as context precision and context recall, where applicable.
Use evaluation results to identify areas for improvement.

The evaluation process is being tested, and verified scores will be added after successful runs.

Challenges We Faced

Integrating the React frontend with the FastAPI backend.
Processing different document formats and YouTube content.
Connecting AI-generated answers to relevant learning materials.
Handling audio transcription and different input sources.
Debugging API integration and configuring reliable AI evaluation.

We aim to improve exact source navigation, topic and prerequisite mapping, advanced adaptive assessments, per-topic mastery tracking, mixed-language learning, and multi-session personalization evaluation.
