About Knowify

Inspiration and Description

Knowifyy was inspired by the frustrating reality that learning online has become expensive by default.

Paywalls, subscriptions, and tiered access models are annoying roadblocks and many of us have experienced abandoning a learning opportunity—not because of lack of motivation, but because another monthly fee didn’t feel justifiable.

At the same time, we noticed another problem: even when learning is accessible, completion is rare. People start courses, watch videos, but never finish or validate what they’ve learned.

Knowify is a course marketplace built on a time-based access model. Learners get two hours of learning per day for free, No subscriptions, no upfront payments, no lockouts and anyone can start learning immediately.

If learners want to solidify their learning, they can unlock features such as assignments, quizzes, exams, and certification by paying for this layer of the course. The payment serves as a commitment to completion.

How its made

Knowify was built as a web application using React.js, chosen for its component-based architecture, speed, and scalability.

Key aspects of the build include:

  1. A learner dashboard that tracks daily time-based access

  2. Course pages with progress tracking and unlockable assessments

  3. Instructor-facing tools for content publishing and feedback

  4. A clean, minimal UI designed to reduce friction and keep users focused on progress

Challenges We Ran Into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that balances free access with sustainability. We had to think carefully about:

  1. How to prevent abuse of free learning time

  2. How to incentivize completion without introducing hard paywalls

  3. How to communicate the value of commitment-based payment clearly

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

  1. Designing a new economic model for learning that goes beyond subscriptions

  2. Building a marketplace experience that benefits learners, instructors, and employers

What We Learned

Address the challenge of keeping the platform free and equitable for all users, while still enabling creators to earn financial rewards for their work.

What’s Next

Next steps for Knowlify include:

  1. Expanding certification and skill verification features

  2. Introducing employer partnerships for talent discovery

  3. Improving instructor analytics and course ranking systems

  4. Exploring adaptive learning limits based on engagement and performance
