Inspiration

Roblox has been an integral part of our upbringing, a space where we connected with others and embraced the joy of gaming. As we transitioned into adulthood, our focus shifted from gaming to our passion for education and academic excellence. The traditional lecture-style learning transformed into digital flashcards on Quizlet as we pursued success in school. While we cherished interactive trivia games in the classroom, we yearned to create a more immersive and engaging experience.

Through Roblox Studio, we've created a game where education knows no boundaries. Where every learner, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to quality learning opportunities. That's the vision behind Questi. We're tackling the pressing issue of global education inequality head-on by providing a gamified platform that not only bridges educational divides but also fosters collaboration and supports learners' mental well-being. With Questi, learners embark on an immersive journey of discovery, connecting with peers, mastering subjects, and unlocking their full potential.

What it does

"Questi," is an educational gameplay experience designed to promote collaborative learning and teamwork. Users can join with their friends, classmates, or team members to tackle course-related questions within a set timeframe. By leveraging their collective knowledge and collaborating effectively, players work together to answer all the questions and complete the game before time runs out. "Questi" transforms traditional learning into an immersive and engaging multiplayer experience, where participants not only deepen their understanding of course material but also develop essential teamwork and problem-solving skills.

How we built it

Our team utilized Roblox Studio to create our virtual world. Through precise scripting in Luau, we engineered dynamic gameplay mechanics, seamlessly integrating an API to fetch course material questions. With an eye for design and optimization, we fine-tuned every aspect of the project to ensure optimal performance and user experience. Effective communication and collaboration were critical as we navigated technical challenges and brought our collective vision to life, culminating in a groundbreaking educational platform that blends gaming and learning seamlessly.

Challenges we ran into

• Designing the UI/UX for smooth progression proved tricky
• Connecting the script to track group progress was complex.
• We encountered difficulties with client-to-server communication
• Most of us had to learn Luau syntax and Roblox Studio from scratch
• Sometimes the API did not respond correctly

Next Steps

• Integrating with an API that allows you to customize questions (users can make their own custom quizzes)
• Add more maps/levels and types of challenges/game modes to keep the users engaged
• Reward users for completing quests with a leaderboard and currency that can be used to purchase in-game items
