Inspiration

As a solopreneur, I'd built my entire content operation around Notion—scripts, project timelines, freelancer assignments, publication schedules, everything lived there. My remote team of writers and editors spread across Indonesia had finally mastered our collaborative workflow after months of refinement.

But every time I sat down to record, I hit the same wall: copying scripts into separate teleprompter apps, losing formatting, missing last-minute edits from my team. I'd be mid-recording and realize I was reading an outdated version while my editor in Pontianak had already pushed updates to Notion. The obvious solution was migrating to a "proper" content production stack, but that meant abandoning months of workflow optimization and forcing my freelancers to learn new tools.

What it does

"Turn Notion Into Teleprompter" transforms your existing Notion database into a professional teleprompter through a React web app. With a simple click, it fetches the latest content from your Notion database, ensuring you're always reading the most current version. Your team collaborates in Notion as usual—writers in Bandung draft scripts, editors in Yogyakarta add notes—and when you're ready to record, one button pull gets you the latest version on your teleprompter.

How we built it

Built with React for the frontend teleprompter interface, integrated with Notion's API for on-demand data fetching. The app uses a simple button-click mechanism to pull the latest content from the Notion database, maintaining Notion as the single source of truth. No complex sync systems—just straightforward fetch-when-needed functionality that respects your existing Notion workflow.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was designing an intuitive interface that made it clear when content was fresh versus when it needed refreshing. Balancing simplicity with reliability—ensuring the fetch mechanism works consistently across different internet connections throughout Indonesia while keeping the user experience clean and predictable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a solution that respects Notion as the single source of truth without overcomplicating the workflow. Successfully eliminated version control confusion while keeping the technical complexity invisible. Teams can work naturally in Notion while creators get professional teleprompter functionality with zero learning curve.

What we learned

Sometimes the best solution isn't the most technically sophisticated one. A simple "fetch latest" approach often beats complex real-time systems, especially when you want to maintain control over when updates appear. Indonesian creators value reliability over real-time bells and whistles—they want to know their content is current when they click record.

What's next for Teleprompter for Notion as Database

Ready to launch on Product Hunt and social media to gather real user feedback from content creators using Notion workflows. The core teleprompter features are built and tested—now it's time to validate the product-market fit with actual creators managing remote teams across Indonesia and beyond. Planning to use this feedback to identify which features resonate most with users and determine the optimal pricing strategy for converting free users to paid subscribers. The goal is building a sustainable SaaS model around the Notion-teleprompter integration based on real creator needs rather than assumptions.
