Inspiration

I wanted to create an environment which encourages users to keep learning and to feel good about it, looking at the garden out my window makes me feel go so I wanted to use that beautiful energy.

What it does

It's a spaced repetition learning tracking system with modular learning packs (styled as seed packs) which contain question and answer pairs with optional images, video, etc. For each item the user gets a flower which they must water with continued practice over an extended period, after enough practice the flower blooms and everything we've learnt helps create a beautiful garden which we can see to visually understand our progress.

How we built it

I built it by first talking the idea through with GPT and establishing a good structure for the three main game elements - the garden, the lesson packs and the mini-games before working with codex to build it piece by piece and upgrade the design as we went.

I have built the dev tools like the seed pack editor and flower sprite editor directly into the program, this allows the program to grow and a real testament to how tools like codex can increase the scope of a project but enabling high quality and nice looking editor tools to be created when previously it would have been a whole project in itself.

Challenges we ran into

The most difficult bits were designing the backend to be flexible enough to allow a wide range of knowledge to be studied and a wide range of minigames to be added while also staying simple to use and cohesive - i think between us me and chatGPT managed to get a nice workable solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that it is very modular allowing users to easily use GPT or similar to create new minigames and info packs which can be dropped right in,

What we learned

For a start I learned an awful lot about Famous Art while testing it! I also increased my understanding of the spaced repetition learning system and how it works in practice.

What's next for Knowledge Bloom

I want to extend it by polishing and upgrading the garden system, potentially redesigning to allow much more complex and unique gardens, add more packs and mini-games then hopefully add all the security and user management stuff required to host it on a webpage to allow everyone access. I'd love to have other people creating mini-games and seed packs which i can enjoy and learn from too.
