Knowhere 🌍

Excited for My First Participation in Meta Horizon Series!

Inspiration

I wanted a remixable world that feels like a canvas of exploration, inspired by open-world games like Zelda and Skyrim. My goal was to craft modular biomes—grasslands, deserts, sky, and snowfields—that creators can easily remix, expand, or reskin. Creators can expand on a single biome or work with combinations.

What it does

Knowhere is a multi-biome remixable world featuring:

  • A central hub that connects to distinct elemental regions.
  • Three complete biomes: Grassland (starter hub), Desert (ruins + oasis), and Snow (cabins + ice caves).
  • Modular assets (trees, ruins, mystical elements, cabins, portals, crystals) that others can drag-and-drop.
  • A consistent painterly, semi-realistic art style optimized for mobile.

How I built it

  • 85% of the assets and scripts are built using Meta AI (Gen AI).
  • Meta AI was the sole reason I was able to build this project as a beginner with no knowledge about 3D modeling and texturing.
  • I generated skyboxes, 3D assets, texture options, ambient and SFX sound.
  • Even the scripts were generated and attached with the help of Meta AI.

Challenges I ran into

  • Building terrains and pathways was difficult and required experimenting with asset placement.
  • Maintaining a consistent art direction across grass, desert, and snow biomes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Built three distinct yet cohesive biomes that feel immersive and welcoming.
  • Created reusable assets that fit many genres (adventure, roleplay, obby).
  • Aligned the project with the hackathon’s open source + remixability spirit.

What I learned

  • How to design for remixability: decoupling art from scripts, exposing properties, and documenting usage.
  • How much mobile optimization matters—small texture/geometry tweaks can hugely improve FPS.
  • How to blend atmosphere and gameplay so the world is both beautiful and functional.

Judging Criteria

Reusability

  • Knowhere is a remixable world that provides creators with a library of assets such as trees, ruins, cabins, icy crystals, and portals—ready to be remixed in new projects.
  • Each biome works as a standalone environment but can also be combined with others, allowing remixers to expand the world in their own direction.

Modularity

  • Every component is designed to be independent and adaptable.
  • Assets like trees, ruins, and cabins can be rearranged, reskinned, or replaced without breaking the environment.
  • This modular design means creators can remix a single biome or stitch multiple biomes together for larger adventures.

Technical Impact

  • All assets were optimized for smooth mobile performance, ensuring consistent frame rates across biomes.
  • Minimal Scripts are used in this version to focus on remixable scenes and assets.
  • By combining AI-generated models with Horizon Worlds scripting, I showed how even beginners can create a technically solid, large-scale world that others can learn from and remix.

Experience Design

  • Each biome has its own unique atmosphere: warm grasslands, harsh deserts with ruins, and icy snowfields with glowing crystals and auroras.
  • The painterly semi-realistic art style ties the different biomes together into a cohesive, immersive experience.

What's next for Knowhere

  • Add more biomes (Volcanic, Ocean, Secret Dark Level).
  • Introduce new interactive systems (teleporters, jump pads, environmental hazards).
  • Grow a community remix chain where creators link their worlds back into Knowhere.

Overall

I am very proud to have built this as a beginner and that I could actually complete it and submit what I had in mind. I am especially thankful to the Gen AI tool and the YouTube channel for the supporting videos and insights :D

Hoping to see people make wonderful things out of these assets and remixable worlds :D

This world includes more than 200 unique assets to remix. These are simple environmental assets designed to be used by beginners to experts - minimal complex typescript or properties. Beginners can start off building worlds and environments with these to gain confidence and then progress to advanced dynamic concepts
