Challenges we ran into
The hardware components (sensor, Arduino, Raspberry Pi) were a challenge to get connected. We had issues with our amplifier and had to switch between several types of vibration sensors, but finally settled on one that worked. Communication between the Arduino and the Raspberry Pi also required a significant amount of testing and debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of the fact that we integrated all our elements successfully. The circuit was a particularly large hurdle but we tackled it with good results.
What we learned
It would be very helpful to read the data sheet before buying equipment.
What's next for Knocknock
In the future,
- lcd screen output with reply to text message
- better web interface
- more complex knock pattern detection
- more reliable knock detection
- multiple knock sensors
