Inspiration
In Taipei, Taiwan, there are electronic signs at bus stops telling people waiting for the bus when the next bus will arrive. Not all city bus stops can install such devices or have such public services. How can we make this service cheap and quickly deployable to bus systems in cities around the world? This question came to our mind in 2016. It's the same year that Pokemon Go released. So the first answer that comes to our minds is to let passengers or drivers tell the system where the bus is. Then comes the first insurmountable obstacle : How to entice people to take the first step and provide their information without expecting anything in return.
Making a game seems to obscure the original intention of providing a public service. The resources required to make a game seem to be far greater than designing an app to provide public services. But it turns out that we are limited and induced by our own subjective expectations. If we want users to provide our APP with information about their bus rides, we should think about how to use the APP to make taking the bus fun.
What it does
With this application, taking the bus is not only a means of moving around the city, but also a romantic adventure in a new era. The bus you take is your ride, and the mobile phone in your hand becomes your spear... Challenge any stranger on the bus network to a horse-riding duel exclusive to knights. The desire to win is the only motivation and ultimate reason! charge! victory! (The shame and loss of defeat are risks and side effects of using this app. Please make your own relaxed, casual and whimsical evaluation before boldly opening this application!)
How we built it
Flutter with google map tool for Android and Web. Google AppScript for API-dev. Google BigQuery for database. (Yeahhhhhhhhh)
Challenges we ran into
Almost everything is a challenge. To complete registration is a challenge. To create a web page and video explaining the app was a challenge. To develop a fully functional application is a challenge. (It's still unable to match the player on the bus.) To make BigQuery accept single row of data insert is a challenge. (Google should hanged the team who made the guide.)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Give the middle finger to a career that is dull, boring, full of oppression and lies and intimidation, and try to find friends with whom you can communicate and identify with each other to participate in this event.
What's next for Knight's Tale
More gameplay options. Let players enjoy the fun of taking the bus more.
