Inspiration
As college students, we would always struggle with not just finding time for cooking, but also knowing what to make with our limited ingredients.
What it does
Using a data set of recipes from FoodNetwork, this application takes in specified ingredients from the user and outputs a list of recipes that have said ingredient included.
How we built it
We built Knight Bites using NextJS, MongoDB Atlas, JavaScript, and a little bit of Python for testing.
Challenges we ran into
API integration, specifically integrating our data processing function into the website, created some challenges for us, especially whilst trying to remain under the time limit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Storing previous inputs using MongoDB Atlas was a feat that was expected to be challenging, however we were able to implement it effectively in less time than projected.
What we learned
Both of us come from different backgrounds, in terms of previous programming experience and knowledge coming into this event. However, we both learned to leverage our unique skillsets and creative ideas to accomplish our goal.
What's next for Knight Bites
Knight Bites hopes to be able to individualize the user experience in a multitude of ways. Starting off with user authentication, allowing users to have their own storage of ingredients. We hope to also integrate their preferences over time into our relevance algorithm.
