We've all been there—wandering the city, enjoying life, when nature suddenly calls. You scramble to find a clean restroom, but time is running out. Enter Kneadaschit, the app that takes the stress out of those urgent moments.

What it does

Kneadaschit is your personal restroom concierge. Using real-time location data, Kneadaschit instantly pinpoints the five closest bathrooms, offering you a curated selection of clean, accessible options. With just a tap, we guide you there via turn-by-turn directions, while providing key details like hours of operation, cleanliness stats, accessibility, and more. We use interactive maps powered by Mapbox to visualize clusters of restrooms across the city, giving you complete control over your relief.

How we built it

We utilized React and Chakra UI on the front end. To display the map an d directions, we used Mapbox for the maps as well as for the navigation and directions. The data was pulled from the City and County of San Francisco’s government website. Since this only had about 200-300 data points, we set up a PostgreSQL and PostGIS database to store these datapoints which is where we retrieve from.

We were partway through working on user reports, which included setting up Amazon S3 for photo uploads. We also had a Gemini prompt working which was able to classify user photos as cleanliness or accessible. San Francisco

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we ran into was having to restart due to having a lot of difficulty with one of the previous softwares we tried using. As a result we scrapped our old repository and started from scratch. Using a new framework. Due to a time crunch, we realized we didn’t have as much time as we wanted to implement all the features. However, in the end we were able to deliver a finished product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first hackathon for most of our team. None of us knew each other prior to the hackathon, which was a really interesting experience in terms of team chemistry. Additionally, for two of us, it was our first time attending a hackathon.

What we learned

One of the biggest things we learned was not biting off more than we can chew. We had a lot of ambitious ideas at the very start not really knowing how much time it would take us. So we had to start scaling back a lot to make it work out better.

What's next for Kneadaschit

We plan on finishing the user report feature, and then deploying our app to mobile. Since it’s already built with React, it’s responsive on mobile but the app would be a lot more accessible if that were the case.
