Inspiration

Cycling is more than just a sport — it’s a lifestyle, a community, and for many, a livelihood. Yet cyclists face risks from accidents, theft, and financial barriers to competing at higher levels. Traditional insurance often ignores this niche, and cross-border payments for athlete support remain slow and costly. Inspired by the cycling community’s resilience, we set out to merge blockchain, NFTs, and digital currencies to provide safety, incentives, and funding for cyclists everywhere.

What it does

Klunkaz is a blockchain-powered cycling registry and NFT-backed insurance platform. It allows cyclists to:

Secure NFT-based insurance policies for accidents, theft, and damages.

Earn tokenized rewards for every mile ridden, stored as unique proof-of-ride NFTs.

Contribute to fundraising pools for professional cyclists, ensuring transparent support.

Seamlessly transact using CBDCs and XRP Ledger integration for global payments.

How we built it

We developed the core platform on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, to take advantage of lower costs, faster speeds, and Ethereum compatibility. NFT-backed insurance contracts and proof-of-ride tokens are managed on Base via smart contracts. For financial rails, we designed a model for CBDC payments and created a roadmap for XRP Ledger integration in Phase II, enabling liquidity and scalability. The frontend is built with React for usability, while backend services handle cyclist registration, claim processing, and data analytics.

Base provides a cost-effective, scalable environment for NFT and DeFi use cases, making it ideal for mainstream adoption.

CBDCs are a game-changer for regulatory compliance and instant settlement in community-driven platforms.

Cross-chain design is essential when building solutions that need both Base’s Ethereum ecosystem compatibility and XRP’s scalability.

Building trust with non-crypto users requires simplifying onboarding and emphasizing tangible benefits.
