Inspiration

The frustration of having to give details about complex medical history and timelines each time you make a doctor's visit. With doctors having the busy schedule that they do, having to book an in-person appointment and take up precious time explaining complex medical histories and nuances only makes medical care worse for everyone involved, so we came up with a way to do all of that digitally, conveniently, and at a glance

What it does

It lets you track everything medical related about your life. From any conditions that you might have, from ones you were born with to ones you developed later in life, to any medical treatments and actions you did, like a surgery or physical therapy, with detailed dates and timelines for each. It also allows you to give your doctors permissions to view or edit your medical timelines, allowing for the most detailed and accurate tracking possible, done by medically-trained professionals

How we built it

As a duo consisting of a pragmatic web developer specializing in designs and workflows, and a backend hobbyist with a deep understanding and passion for app architecture, we combined our skills to deliver the best possible experience we could, front-through-back, with a satisfying user experience built with react and next.js, along with a classic but formidable back-end made with node.js and express.js, with all of our user's data stored on postgreSQL

Challenges we ran into

As a pair who both started out with coding as a hobby, we're used to working solo on our computers, so the biggest challenges we probably ran into were not just teamwork, and learning to get along with unfamiliar workflows and conventions, but also getting a product out into the real world, hosting it on real remote servers and connecting it across the actual internet, rather than just on localhost on our computers

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Out of everything we've built, we're probably most proud of the clear separation of concerns and good web-dev practices applied in the backend, and the thorough validation and satisfying UI of the front-end(especially the timeline visualization)

What we learned

Building this, we learned so much more than we expected, from simple things like better debugging and more libraries under our belt, to big things like collaboration, hosting, and presentation skills, along with getting much more focus on our passion and the things we plan to do with it in the future

What's next for KliniKtracK

If we choose to continue with this project, the first steps would probably be more simple coding, like improving the authentication or improving the validation, although we can see ourselves adding more features not too far down the line, from public doctor profiles, followers, and ratings, to much more large-scale things, like quick qr-based logging
