Inspiration
Mental health providers are overwhelmed. Therapists with packed schedules have no way to know which patients need urgent in-person care and which can wait until they're already in the room. We wanted to fix the moment before the visit.
What it does
Klarity VoiceNote is an AI-powered voice intake and triage assistant for mental health practices. Before a visit, patients speak with a warm AI intake assistant powered by Retell. After the call, the system:
- Risk-ranks patients by urgency so overbooked therapists can triage who needs immediate in-person care vs. a lighter check-in
- Generates a provider-ready SOAP note draft
- Surfaces risk flags (sleep disruption, anxiety escalation, safety concerns)
- Suggests follow-up questions for the provider to ask
- Gives providers an Approve / Edit / Regenerate workflow
This is not AI therapy. It is an intake, triage, and documentation tool for licensed providers.
How we built it
- Retell AI for the voice conversation and post-call transcript
- Claude API to convert transcripts into structured SOAP notes, risk rankings, and flags
- Next.js + Tailwind for the patient intake page and provider dashboard
Challenges we ran into
Getting the Retell webhook pipeline working under time pressure was the biggest challenge.
What we learned
Voice first AI intake is an underexplored layer in healthcare workflows. The hardest part wasn't the AI, it was framing the product carefully so it empowers providers without overstepping into clinical territory. The triage/ranking layer turned out to be the most valuable feature for overbooked practices.
What's next
Real EHR integration, HIPAA-grade compliance, and a pilot with actual mental health providers through Klarity Health.
