Inspiration
Learning something new can be difficult when you don't know where to start or can't afford a personal teacher. At the same time, there are millions of people who already have useful skills but don't have an easy way to share them with others.
We wanted to build a platform that combines the best of both worlds: AI for getting started and real people for deeper learning.
That's how Kivora was created.
What Kivora Does
Kivora is a skill-sharing platform where users can:
- 🤖 Learn basic concepts with an AI learning assistant
- 👥 Discover real people who can teach skills they want to learn
- 🔄 Share the skills they already know
- 💬 Connect with other learners and teachers
- ⭐ Build their reputation through skill-sharing
- 💛 Optionally tip someone who helped them
The AI is designed as a basic learning assistant, while human-to-human learning provides personalized guidance and deeper experiences.
How We Built It
We built Kivora using Google AI Studio to develop the application and Firebase for authentication and backend functionality.
The application includes:
- Firebase authentication
- User profiles
- Skill selection
- Skill discovery and matching
- SkillSwap requests
- Messaging
- AI-powered basic learning
- AI learning disclaimer
- Optional tipping concept
- A responsive, light-themed interface
We focused on creating a simple experience where a user can go from wanting to learn something to finding a person who can help them.
What We Learned
Building Kivora taught us that creating an application is much more than designing screens.
We learned about:
- Building with AI-assisted development tools
- Connecting an application to Firebase
- User authentication and data management
- Designing for real users rather than just making a prototype look good
- Thinking about privacy and safety when connecting strangers
- Testing applications with multiple user accounts
- The importance of clear error handling and reliable data synchronization
One of our biggest lessons was that a feature can look finished on the screen while still having problems behind the scenes. Testing the complete user journey was therefore extremely important.
Challenges
One of our biggest challenges was making the application work correctly with real users and real-time data.
For example, user profiles, skill information, requests, and messages all need to be connected to the correct authenticated Firebase user. Making sure information is stored and retrieved correctly across different accounts required significant testing and debugging.
Another challenge was deciding what AI should and shouldn't do. We didn't want AI to replace human learning. Instead, we designed it to help users understand the basics and then connect them with people who can provide deeper, personalized learning.
What's Next
Kivora is still an evolving MVP.
Our future plans include:
- Better skill matching
- Improved real-time messaging
- Stronger user verification
- Safer face-to-face meeting features
- Better learning progress tracking
- More personalized AI learning paths
- Reputation and review systems
- Expanding the platform to more skills and communities
Our goal is to create a world where everyone has something they can teach and everyone has something they can learn.
