Inspiration

For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted a cat. However, I've never been able to actually have one of my own. The second best alternative to owning a cat is to watch cats be cats on the internet. Cats are companions for humans in the toughest of times, but unfortunately they can't do much more than claw at furniture and loaf up, let alone provide thoughtful quotes... untill now!!!!!

What it does

KittyKuotes takes cute gifs/pictures of cats and displays them in the back paired with a thought-provoking quote from some of pretty cool humans.

How we built it

To build KittyKuotes, I used html to structure the webpage, css to make it look nice, and javascript to make it functional. The webpage takes the "thecatapi" to find a random picture of cats and sets it as the background. Then It takes thequotable.io api to find a quote. It is pieced all together and launched through github pages

Challenges we ran into

I kept having issues learning how to launch a website from github pages since I am relatively new to the process. It was also a challenge to use vs code for the first couple of times. After these learning curves, it was difficult make the button functional and actually make the quote show up.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I was able to make the button refresh and actually show a new quote and image. I was initally getting frustrated and was ready to fall back on just using the refresh button the browser, however, I was finally able to figure out a way to make it work.

What we learned

I learned how to properly launch a simple website that is functional using HTML, CSS, JavaScript that is all put together and launched on github pages.

What's next for Kitty Kuotes

I would love to add additional functionality that would allow features such as adding a tab that would help locate animal shelters for cats nearby using an api. I would also love to add a feature to the website that would allow users to choose between what kind of animal they want to see in the background.
