Inspiration
Food waste and hunger exist side by side. Every day, large quantities of edible food are discarded while nearby communities struggle to access meals. We wanted to solve this gap using technology by making food donation fast, safe, and accessible through AI and real-time location matching.
What it does
Kitchen to Community is an AI-enabled food donation platform that connects food donors with nearby recipients. Donors upload food details and images, which are analyzed using AI to classify food type, estimate quantity and shelf life, and ensure safe expiry handling. Nearby users receive real-time notifications and can request pickups, ensuring quick redistribution of surplus food.
How we built it
We built a scalable full-stack web application using a modern frontend and a cloud-based backend. The system includes AI-powered food image classification, pincode-based proximity matching, role-based access control (admin/user), and an end-to-end donation lifecycle covering creation, requests, pickup confirmation, reviews, and analytics.
