Inspiration
Farmers are the backbone of our country, yet many still struggle to access timely agricultural information, fair market pricing, soil insights, and expert guidance. Most existing digital farming platforms are difficult to use because they are not designed for regional languages or low-tech accessibility.
We wanted to build a solution that feels like a trusted farming companion — one that farmers can simply talk to, upload photos to, and receive instant AI-powered guidance in their own language.
Kisan Mitra AI was inspired by the vision of making advanced artificial intelligence accessible to every farmer, regardless of language, education level, or location.
What it does
Kisan Mitra AI is an AI-powered agricultural assistant that helps farmers throughout the farming lifecycle using voice, computer vision, and real-time analytics.
Core Features: 🎤 Voice Assistant (Krishi-Vani): Farmers can ask questions in regional languages about weather, mandi prices, crop diseases, or farming practices. 📸 AI Quality Grader: Farmers upload crop images, and the AI grades produce quality and estimates market value. 🌱 Soil Health Analyzer: Upload soil health cards to extract nutrient data and receive fertilizer recommendations. 🌾 Sowing Advisor: Suggests the best crops, planting windows, and seed varieties based on region and soil conditions. 📊 Real-Time Market Insights: Provides live mandi prices and demand trends. 🔊 Voice Responses: AI replies back in the farmer’s preferred language using speech synthesis.
Kisan Mitra AI acts like a digital farming expert available 24/7.
How we built it
We built Kisan Mitra AI using a scalable cloud-native architecture powered by AWS and .NET technologies.
Backend Built with .NET 8 and ASP.NET Core Web API Implemented Clean Architecture for scalability and maintainability Used AWS Lambda for serverless backend deployment AI & AWS Services Amazon Transcribe for speech-to-text Amazon Bedrock (Claude AI) for intelligent responses and recommendations Amazon Rekognition for crop quality grading Amazon Textract for extracting soil health card data Amazon Polly for multilingual voice responses Amazon DynamoDB for storing mandi prices and user data Amazon S3 for image/audio storage Amazon Cognito for authentication Frontend Built using React + TypeScript Used Redux Toolkit for state management Integrated voice recording and image upload capabilities Designed a responsive UI focused on simplicity for farmers Challenges we ran into
Building Kisan Mitra AI came with several real-world and technical challenges:
🌐 Handling multilingual voice inputs and regional accents accurately 📸 Improving AI-based crop grading consistency across varying image qualities 🧾 Extracting structured data from different soil health card formats ☁️ Managing multiple AWS AI services together efficiently ⚡ Optimizing response time for voice-based conversations 📡 Designing features that could eventually support low-connectivity rural regions 🔐 Securing cloud resources and managing authentication workflows
One of the biggest challenges was creating an experience simple enough for farmers while still using advanced AI systems behind the scenes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of ✅ Built a complete AI-powered agriculture ecosystem instead of a single-feature app ✅ Successfully integrated voice AI, computer vision, OCR, and cloud services into one platform ✅ Created a multilingual voice-first experience for accessibility ✅ Designed a scalable AWS serverless architecture ✅ Developed real-world use cases with direct impact on farmers ✅ Combined modern AI technologies with practical agricultural needs ✅ Built a project that addresses both social impact and technical innovation
We are especially proud that Kisan Mitra AI is not just a concept — it is designed as a practical solution for real farming communities.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned:
How to integrate multiple AI services into one unified workflow Real-world cloud architecture design using AWS Challenges involved in voice AI and multilingual systems The importance of user-centric design for rural accessibility How AI can create meaningful social impact beyond automation The value of scalable serverless infrastructure Team collaboration, rapid prototyping, and hackathon execution under time constraints
Most importantly, we learned that technology becomes powerful when it solves problems for people who truly need it.
What's next for Kisan AI
We plan to expand Kisan Mitra AI into a full-scale smart agriculture ecosystem.
Future Roadmap: 🌍 Support for 10+ Indian regional languages 📱 Android and iOS mobile applications 📡 Offline mode for low-internet rural areas 🦠 AI-powered crop disease detection ☁️ Hyperlocal weather forecasting and alerts 🛒 Farmer-to-buyer marketplace integration 🏛️ Government scheme and subsidy recommendations 📈 Predictive analytics for yield and pricing trends 🤝 Community farming discussion platform 🛰️ Satellite and IoT integration for precision farming
Our vision is to make Kisan Mitra AI the most accessible AI farming assistant for millions of farmers across India.
