Thank You, Kiro Team

Thanks for hosting a hackathon that changed how I see vibe coding and AI-powered development.

Inspiration

Working in ERP transformation, I've witnessed the 'SAP S/4HANA Gold Rush' - a massive supply-demand gap. Every CIO shares the same concern: "We have 40 years of ABAP code running our supply chain. The original developers are retired. Documentation doesn't exist. Modernization quotes are \$50M and 3 years - with no guarantees."

Millions of enterprises are haunted by their own success. Their 1980s code is now their biggest liability.

The Kiroween Hackathon's Resurrection category sparked an idea: what if we could resurrect dead code with all its business logic intact, ready for the cloud? As I built with Kiro's Model Context Protocol, I realized we were stitching together 50 years of incompatible tech - ABAP from 1983, modern Node.js, cloud frameworks, and 2024 AI. This became both Resurrection and Frankenstein.

This addresses a \$200 billion market opportunity to free enterprises from legacy hell.

What it does

Resurrection Platform transforms 40-year-old ABAP into modern SAP CAP applications in minutes.

Core Flow:

  1. Upload legacy ABAP code
  2. AI analyzes via custom ABAP Analyzer MCP
  3. Kiro designs modern SAP CAP architecture
  4. Three MCP servers generate CAP backend, Fiori UI, and deployment configs
  5. Automated validation verifies business logic preservation
  6. One-click GitHub deployment

How we built it

Stack:

  • Frontend: Next.js 15, React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind, Shadcn/ui, D3.js
  • Backend: Node.js, Prisma, PostgreSQL, OpenAI API, Pinecone
  • AI: 3 coordinated MCP servers (custom ABAP Analyzer, @cap-js/mcp-server, @ui5/mcp-server)

Expert Kiro Usage:

  1. Specs - 4 comprehensive specifications (2,000+ lines) enabled production-ready code on first try
  2. Steering Docs - 1,000+ lines of SAP domain knowledge taught Kiro to generate idiomatic CAP code
  3. Hooks - 3 automated workflows for quality gates
  4. MCP Frankenstein Architecture - 3 servers with 15+ tools orchestrated to execute the full resurrection workflow
  5. Vibe Coding - 1,400+ lines documenting strategic partnership and architectural decisions

Challenges

ABAP Parser Complexity - ABAP syntax varies across 40 years. Solution: Used Kiro + steering docs to create flexible pattern-matching parser.

MCP Orchestration - Coordinating 3 servers required building a unified MCPOrchestrator that abstracts complexity.

Business Logic Preservation - Built automated validation comparing logic signatures between original ABAP and generated CAP, flagging anything below 90% accuracy.

50-Year Technology Gap - Instead of direct translation, used 3 specialized agents understanding ABAP (1983), CAP (2020), and UI5 (2024), with MCP as the "stitches."

Accomplishments

  • Dual Category Excellence - Only project mastering both Resurrection and Frankenstein
  • 3 MCP Servers - Most projects use 0-1; we orchestrated 3 at scale
  • Production-Ready - 15,000+ lines of TypeScript with full type safety, error handling, and CI/CD
  • Real Business Impact - Addresses \$200B market, 25,000 potential customers, 99% cost/time reduction
  • Expert Kiro Mastery - Deep usage across all 5 features, not checkbox compliance

Key Learnings

Kiro as Strategic Partner - Ask "what should we do?" not "do this." Kiro researches, recommends better approaches, and explains reasoning.

Steering Docs are Game-Changers - Comprehensive domain knowledge enables autonomous, idiomatic code generation without repeated explanations.

Specs Enable Autonomy - Detailed specs let Kiro implement complete features production-ready in one session.

MCP Bridges Incompatible Worlds - We literally connected 1983 mainframe code with 2024 cloud infrastructure. MCP orchestration is its own discipline.

What's Next

Beta Launch (30 Days):

  1. Complete intelligence features
  2. Enhance ABAP coverage
  3. Production hardening
  4. Beta customer acquisition

The YouTube video introduces Kiro, an AI-powered platform designed to resurrect legacy SAP ABAP code into modern web applications (0:00-0:08). This addresses a significant challenge for enterprises, as much of the world's Fortune 500 companies still run on outdated SAP ABAP, which is difficult to refactor and modernize due to a lack of documentation and original developers (0:12-0:35).

Kiro's capabilities include: • Automatic analysis of legacy ABAP without documentation or original developers (0:35-0:59). • Identification of business context, such as materials management, inventory, purchase orders, and procurement (0:59-1:09). • Suggestion of appropriate Fiori/modern applications to build (1:09-1:17). • Generation of a full GitHub repository, including CDS views, OData services, database schema, and mock data (1:24-1:41). • Creation of a complete functional requirements document (1:41-1:55). • Building the UI, running Playwright UI tests, and capturing screenshots (1:55-2:24, 3:01-3:06).

The presenter demonstrates how simply pasting the ABAP code into Kiro allows the platform to perform the entire transformation process (0:49-0:53, 1:55-2:03). This innovation aims to unlock a $200B+ market by converting "dead" legacy SAP code into "living, production-ready applications," thereby providing real value and addressing a significant pain point for enterprises (0:05-0:08, 2:27-2:39, 2:42-2:46). Kiro is powered by MCP and AWS (2:47-2:50, 3:08-3:11).
