Kiro JP
Inspiration
Inspiration from WaniKani: well-structured lessons for learning kanji, but it's limited to kanji, not grammar and daily conversation. That's why I wanted to build Kiro JP.
What it does
It's a Japanese learning app that allows you to learn kanji and grammar, with text- and voice-based conversation options.
How I built it
First, I searched for design references that I wanted to give the app, then used skills to plan the features. Once the plan was finalized, I started implementing it using AI, then tested it myself, gave instructions to fix the bugs and make optimizations, and added new features.
Challenges I ran into
Even though I gave a UI reference, AI was not able to create the design I wanted, so I had to guide it to get near what I envisioned. Second, I wanted to use the WaniKani lesson plan, but later I found it's not legal to use it, so I had to find an alternative method to create the lessons.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Built my first mobile application, and I'm getting the hang of building applications using AI.
What I learned
Mobile development flows.
What's next for Kiro JP
Pricing and adding lessons; these will be the priority.
How Qloo was used / Taste Graph Integration
Qloo allows users to learn about topics they might be interested in, in conversation mode and daily suggestions, helping users engage and continue learning.
- Interest categories used: Food, Anime & Manga, Places, Culture & Daily Life.
- Integration architecture: Qloo's Taste Graph is queried through the backend to discover cultural entities and topics matched to the learner's saved interests. The AI tutor agent uses these recommendations to initiate conversational practice and daily study topics tailored to the learner's Japanese proficiency level.
