Inspiration
Local kirana stores are the backbone of Indian communities, yet many struggle to compete with large online grocery platforms. We wanted to empower them with technology that keeps their freshness and trust intact while offering modern convenience.
What it does
Kirana FressBasket connects nearby kirana stores directly to customers through a smart web app. Users can browse fresh groceries, compare prices, place orders, and get doorstep delivery — all while supporting local businesses.
How we built it
We built the app using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js). The backend handles store inventory and order management, while the frontend provides a clean, responsive UI for customers. We integrated Google Maps API for location‑based store discovery.
Challenges we ran into
Synchronizing real‑time inventory updates between multiple stores was tricky. We also faced issues with optimizing delivery routes and ensuring smooth payment integration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a working prototype that connects kirana stores to customers in under 3 clicks. Our UI design received positive feedback for being intuitive and culturally relatable.
What we learned
We learned how to design scalable APIs, manage asynchronous data flow, and balance user experience with backend efficiency. Collaboration and version control through GitHub were key lessons.
What's next for Kirana FressBasket
We plan to add AI‑based demand prediction, multilingual support, and a loyalty program for frequent buyers. Our goal is to onboard 100+ kirana stores in the next phase.
