Inspiration

The overwhelming choice we have nowadays for choosing a movie takes up so much of our limited free time. We wanted streamline the process of finding a movie so people can spend less time searching and more time sitting back and enjoying a good movie. Our goal was create a fun, interactive, and efficient way to discover movies.

What it does

Kino.io enables people to find the movies they want based on their preferences. The app engages users by allowing them to select the filters that they prefer, such as genre, streaming service, country, and language. The filtering system we have built efficiently puts forth movie recommendations that best match the individual's taste.

How we built it

We built this Webapp using ReactJS + MUI for the Frontend and a Python Flask Backend. The app makes API calls to the TMDB movie database.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled to even come up with a design for the UI after we determined what project idea we were going forth with. Additionally, we had trouble setting Flask but we managed to troubleshoot and solve our errors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of how we were able to integrate a Python Flask Backend with our Frontend as it is our first time ever using Flask! We are also proud of the design and functionality of our app.

What we learned

We learned how to use Flask for our Backend and better use API calls. We also learned a lot about the UI design process in this project.

What's next for Kino.io

What's next for Kino.io is to add more filters, account functionality, and additional information about movies to help users get a better idea of what a certain movie is about.

We would also like to incorporate AI to further make the recommendations given by our app more tailored to the individual user.
