For the NRVE, Stable Condition, ridin solo, Howdy world, big yeehaw, and green trails. Inspiration Mental health can feel overwhelming, especially for younger men who look up to athletes for motivation. Inspired by the resilience and leadership of LeBron James, we wanted to create an app that makes emotional fitness fun, positive, and accessible — blending daily mood check-ins, motivational coaching, mental health mini-games, and AI-powered wellness advice.

What it does King’s Mindset is a mobile app where users check in on their mood daily, receive a personalized motivational message, play quick mental fitness games, listen to mood-matching background music, and interact with a live AI health chatbot that recommends over-the-counter wellness tips. The app is designed to build focus, gratitude, stress control, and emotional resilience — all inspired by the mindset of a champion. The first game is a wordle inspired game that you play to guess the names of famous NBA stars. The second game is a dribble challenge where you tap the basketball for as long as you can. The third is a positive message journal, that lets you add 3 positive messages a day for points. Lastly, Mindset Match game lets you swipe left and right for common tropes of positive and negative thinking.

How we built it We built the app using React and Typescript. The chatbot uses the OpenAI GPT API to generate customized wellness advice based on symptom input. Replit was a huge resource and fixed many of the early errors I had when starting off.

Challenges we ran into Integrating live ChatGPT responses cleanly into the mobile chat interface without lag or repetition.

Managing asynchronous data storage and mood tracking smoothly for daily use.

Balancing fun, clean UI design with keeping the app lightweight and fast for mobile users.

Building a fun, positive app environment that feels motivating rather than clinical.

Creating smooth mood-based music transitions to emotionally match daily check-ins.

Making mental health accessible, fun, and personalized for young people.

What we learned How to integrate OpenAI APIs effectively for mobile in a way that feels dynamic and natural.

How important user experience design is when dealing with emotional health topics.

What's next for King's Mindset Expanding the AI chatbot to offer guided mindfulness sessions or coping strategies, not just medication advice.

Bringing in real-time notifications for daily motivation boosts.

Polishing the art and animations even further for a more immersive champion training experience.
