The story behind KineticVox comes from observing a simple, everyday reality: spoken language is something most of us take for granted. We use our voice to ask for help, order food, and express urgent needs. However, for individuals who are speech or hearing impaired, every single public interaction—whether visiting a doctor, taking public transport, or facing a sudden emergency—presents a major hurdle because the surrounding public cannot interpret sign language.
Existing solutions like camera-based tracking apps attempt to address this problem, but they fail the moment you step into a dimly lit room, turn your back, or move out of the camera's fixed frame.
As ECE students, we realized that the solution should move with the user. We designed a wearable glove that attaches lightweight sensors directly to the fabric of the hand. As the user signs, the changing physical resistance of the fingers is converted into electrical voltages. These signals are instantly interpreted by a trained pattern-recognition model, which triggers an automated voice output. VocalHand transitions sign language from a visual language to an audible one, giving users complete independence in their everyday lives.
