Inspiration

We were inspired to create Kinekto to promote greater social interaction with people with shared interests. Even though the world is more connected through the use of the internet, there are still people out there who feel lonely and isolated, without people to call friends. So we hope our website could potentially even find a group or hobby for someone in this situation or even people looking to find something new.

What it does

Our website allows a user to create a new account, sign in and query a database with keywords of their choice. Displaying societies which fit the criteria they specified.

How we built it

We built our project using HTML, CSS and Python, specifically with the frameworks Bootstrap and Django. We tried to make the interfaces as user friendly as possible.

Challenges we ran into

We were initially going to implement a cloud based database with Mongodb while using Node.js, however we ran into issues with establishing a connection. This resulted in our pivot to using Django.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we managed to produce at least a minimum viable product. This is our first times creating a website and we were happy to make it interactive and not look too ugly (it still is a little).

What we learned

We learned to produce a product within a tight space of time, with an unfamiliar partner and technology to create it. We learnt to better work collaboratively using Git, as a source control, and dealing with merge conflicts.

What's next for Kinekto

We want to enable even more connections between groups using tags or some other identifier that may indicate a strong similarity to previously joined societies that the user may enjoy. We could maybe even connect individuals using their profile information and similar interests. In the future we may use an LLM to provide more accurate matches for people and societies.
