Inspiration

I've always been interested in the Kinect and how it could be used with PCs instead of the Xbox; when I was a kid, I had managed to connect it to my computer to play VR games on a budget.

What it does

It's a simple game that uses the Kinect to track player movement, allowing them to shoot or defend soccer balls.

How we built it

I used the Kinect SDK 1.8 and various open-source Kinect scripts to integrate the camera with Unity, where I then used the position and avatar data to create the game.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into a lot of issues attempting to set up the Kinect. I had both the Kinect V1 for the Xbox 360 and the Kinect V2 for the Xbox One, but neither was working for the longest time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of being able to figure out how to connect this technology to Unity and understand its data quickly enough to make a game out of it.

What we learned

I learned a lot about how SDKs work to connect devices to Windows.

What's next for Kinect Soccer

Maybe turn it into a more full-fledged game, maybe not!
