Inspiration

Loneliness among senior citizens is a growing issue worldwide. Many older adults feel disconnected due to lack of digital literacy or reduced family interaction. I wanted to build something that brings emotional support to them through technology — and that’s how KindConnect was born.

What it does

KindConnect is an AI-powered chat platform designed specifically for seniors and anyone feeling lonely. It provides friendly, meaningful conversations on topics like motivation, health, humor, and more, helping reduce social isolation through technology

How we built it

We built KindConnect using:

React and TypeScript for a fast, responsive frontend

Tailwind CSS for easy and clean styling

Framer Motion for smooth animations and transitions

Integration with Google’s Gemini AI API to generate smart, empathetic chatbot replies

Local storage to save user conversations so chats persist after page reloads

Vercel for deployment and hosting

Challenges we ran into

Learning to work with the Google Gemini API and managing async requests

Designing an interface accessible and friendly for older adults with larger text and simple UI

Making sure the AI responses stay relevant and empathetic

Ensuring chat history saves reliably with localStorage
