Inspiration
Kinbloom was inspired by the silent emotional struggles adoptive parents face after adoption—grief, anxiety, and self-doubt often hidden behind smiles. Research showing over 30% experience post-adoption depression revealed an urgent need for support. Kinbloom symbolizes family and growth, creating a compassionate space where parents heal, connect, and help their families truly bloom.
What it does
Kinbloom provides emotional wellness support for adoptive parents through guided courses, mindfulness practices, and community connection. It helps parents manage stress, understand trauma-linked behaviors, and track their emotional growth. By combining expert insights with compassionate design, Kinbloom empowers caregivers to heal, build resilience, and strengthen family bonds after adoption.
How we built it
Kinbloom was developed through a human-centered design approach, starting with research on adoptive parents’ emotional challenges. Insights from secondary data, expert interviews, and behavioral studies shaped the concept. Using Figma, moodboards, and UI iterations, we crafted a calm, trauma-informed interface. The design process emphasized empathy, accessibility, and emotional safety at every step.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was addressing the deeply emotional and sensitive nature of adoption without triggering users. Translating psychological insights into simple, comforting design interactions required careful tone and visual balance. Limited real user data also made validating emotional responses difficult, so secondary research and expert input became essential for accuracy and empathy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a concept that shines light on an overlooked issue—supporting adoptive parents emotionally after adoption. Through research and design, we built a platform that fosters empathy, resilience, and connection. Kinbloom successfully bridges emotional well-being and design, transforming complex psychological needs into a warm, accessible, and meaningful digital experience.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned that adoption is not just a legal process—it’s an emotional transformation that requires ongoing care and understanding. Designing for such sensitive experiences taught us the value of empathy-driven decisions, gentle communication, and trauma-informed design. We discovered how thoughtful digital tools can nurture healing, connection, and long-term family well-being.
