Inspiration
As active people, we have often had on-and-off phases of getting into the gym, but we noticed three major issues getting in the way of consistency: Intimidation, motivation and competition. Now, the best way to solve these problems are to have friends at the gym. So kiloGram makes it easier and more convenient for these kind of gym groups to form.
What it does
With kiloGram, you can create or join a group at your preferred gym, at your preferred time. Each group is temporary, dissolving after the selected end time, so there is no commitment if a group is not right for you. Other users cannot search you up directly, and you are meeting at a public gym, maximising safety, which is a top concern when it comes to meet-up apps. kiloGram searches for local gyms based on distance from your location and when based on your avail
How we built it
We used React and Tailwind for the frontend, and Flask for the backend.
Challenges we ran into
We did not plan our software design very thoroughly, leading to design inconsistencies and extensive bug fixes, so more time was spent fixing issues and testing than coding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first hackathon, and we were very unprepared for the kind of schedule we would be working at. We are proud of our ability to learn new frameworks on the job quickly and be able to implement them in our project.
What we learned
Communication between frontend and backend Importance of planning Implementing MapBox API into backend
What's next for kiloGram
Utilise the Google Calendar API with an AI wrapper to auto-recommend groups that fit into free time-slots and are at gyms close to your predicted location based on the event data in your schedule.
