Inspiration
Our team chose the Safety theme because financial insecurity is one of the biggest risks faced by low-income households in Indonesia. We asked ourselves: How can we help families build an accessible financial safety net before an unexpected crisis happens? Many people live without sufficient emergency savings and have little understanding of how resilient they are against sudden expenses such as medical bills, job loss, vehicle repairs, or home emergencies. Kifusuru was created to help users see the bigger financial picture, understand their risks, and learn practical ways to prepare for emergencies instead of relying on unrealistic financial advice.
What it does
Kifusuru is a web-based financial resilience platform that helps users evaluate how prepared they are for unexpected financial emergencies. Users enter their monthly income, essential expenses, and available savings to calculate how long they could financially survive during a crisis. They can then simulate real-life emergency scenarios, explore Indonesia-specific financial protection strategies—including emergency funds, automatic savings, community savings groups (arisan), government assistance, cooperatives, Pegadaian, bill negotiation, and flexible side income—and receive a personalized resilience summary and action plan. Kifusuru also provides links to trusted official services such as Cek Bansos, OJK 157, and Pegadaian, along with an AI assistant that answers questions about financial resilience and emergency preparedness.
How we built it
We built Kifusuru as a lightweight single-page web application using HTML5, CSS3, and Vanilla JavaScript, allowing it to run entirely in the browser without requiring user accounts or storing personal data. The development process was supported by Claude Sonnet 5, Google Gemini API, and GitHub Copilot for coding assistance, AI-powered features, and rapid iteration. Git was used for version control, while Vercel hosts the publicly accessible website. We also verified financial information and official resources to ensure that recommendations were relevant to the Indonesian context.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was balancing simplicity with meaningful financial education. We wanted the platform to remain easy to understand while still providing accurate and actionable guidance. Another challenge was adapting financial recommendations to Indonesia by validating official data, government assistance programs, and trusted financial institutions so users receive realistic and locally relevant recommendations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a practical financial safety platform that focuses on financial resilience rather than investment or profit. Kifusuru transforms complex financial concepts into an interactive experience that helps users visualize their financial safety net, understand emergency risks, and build realistic protection strategies. We're also proud that the application is publicly deployed, privacy-friendly, requires no registration, and integrates reliable Indonesian financial resources into one accessible platform.
What we learned
This project taught us how to combine AI-assisted development with traditional web technologies while maintaining transparency, reliability, and code quality. We also learned the importance of designing technology around real user needs, validating information from trusted sources, and presenting financial education in a way that is engaging, understandable, and actionable for everyday users.
What's next for Kifusuru
We plan to expand Kifusuru into a more comprehensive financial resilience platform by adding personalized AI financial coaching, long-term progress tracking, smarter budgeting recommendations, and more integrations with Indonesian financial services and government resources. We also aim to improve accessibility, support multiple languages, introduce community-based resilience features, and continuously refine the platform based on user feedback and real-world usage.
