Inspiration
We wanted to help kids aged 2–10 learn languages not just from generic apps, but directly from the people who love and guide them every day, from their parents and teachers! Kids learn better when they hear familiar voices, so we thought, what if anyone could create an engaging language course in minutes, powered by AI but made personal by their own voice and favorite characters?
What it does
KidsLingo lets parents and educators build fun, interactive language courses in just a few clicks.
- Use your own voice: AI clones your voice in lessons. Kids learn better with familiar voices.
- AI‑generated lessons and quizzes to reinforce learning.
- Track kids progress
- Cute talking characters to keep kids entertained and engaged in a conversation. The result: a personalized, playful language learning experience designed by someone the child already trusts.
How we built it
-Bolt.new vibe coding -Supabase for authentication, database and cloud serverless functions -Elevenlabs voice cloning, text‑to‑speech and conversational APIs to generate lesson content in the parent’s or teacher’s voice. -Custom React frontend for course design, quiz building, and character dialogue scripting. -AI models to automatically create quizzes and generate conversations for virtual characters.
Challenges we ran into
- Using bolt.new to vibe code this whole KidsLingo is new to me. We had to prompt carefully to save money/tokens
- Use Elevenlabs to make cloned voices and conversation sound both natural and kid‑friendly. There are many new APIs and it took some time and many tokens to code it.
- Designing an interface simple enough for non‑technical parents to build courses quickly.
- Balancing educational quality with fun.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We built a beautiful working prototype in record time around 1 week.
- Successfully generated entire courses in minutes, including audio lessons, quizzes, and conversations.
- Parents and kids we tested with smiled hearing lessons read in the parent's own voice! That was our favorite moment!
What we learned
- Familiar voices are a powerful motivator for kids.
- Simplicity wins: parents want tools that feel intuitive and save them time.
- AI can replicate the warmth of a parent’s voice to use it to teach and entertain their kids.
What's next for KidsLingo
- Create lessons in more languages for kids around the world.
- Videos
- Let kids record and share their own voice replies for practice.
- Build a community library where parents and teachers can share and remix each other’s courses.
- Deeper analytics for parents to track progress and areas to improve
