The Kids Challenge is a free online program for children ages 6-12, and is available on our Get Healthy website: www.gethealthyclarkcounty.org. The program encourages kids to get moving and eat more fruits and veggies.
Kids can choose their own character Tips include recipes and links to other online games to play Game board acts as a tracker for physical activity and fruits and vegetables What is the goal of the Kids Challenge? The goal of the game is to eat 6 servings of fruits and vegetables and be physically active for 60 minutes most days of the week. Why do children need to eat more fruits and veggies? A healthy body needs vitamins and minerals that come from the foods you eat. Fruits and vegetables contain a lot of these vitamins and minerals and are part of a healthy eating plan. Getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity is important to help you stay healthy and strong. Prizes are available to participants that regularly participate in the Kids Challenge. kids Cool Fuel cookbooks (breakfast, snacks, and yummy fruit smoothies) T-shirts gift cards (smoothies & fun activities) Kids qualify for prizes by logging their fruits and veggies and minutes of physical activity into the program at least 3 times a week. Prize winners must be residents of Clark County, Nevada. A pre and posttest is given to participants of the Kids Challenge. Questions include:
- How many cups of fruits and vegetables a day do you usually eat? (Example medium banana, 6 oz 100% fruit juice, small bag carrots)
- Are you willing to try fruits and vegetables that you have never eaten before? (Yes, No Maybe)
- How many days within the past week have you exercised or participated in sports activities that made your heart beat fast and made you breathe hard for at least 20 minutes? (Example basketball, jogging, skating, fast dancing, swimming laps, tennis, fast bicycling, or aerobics)
- How many hours of screen time do you have per day? (Screen time means hours watching TV, using the computer, playing video games, etc).
