Inspiration
We got the idea of creating a website after watching PrideMakers, which is an online workshop hosted by TeamLiquid on Twitch in celebration of Pride Month. We decided that this was a good concept to base our project on, and we ultimately decided that the website should revolve around a business page ran by one of our hackers.
What it does
The website gives users important information about kickzinthe.6ix, such as how they can browse inventory or get into contact with the page. There is also an embedded link which redirects the user to kickzinthe.6ix's Instagram profile.
How we built it
By utilizing skills we learned from PrideMakers and freecodecamp.org, we used HTML and CSS to build our website on glitch.com. We then used the free .xyz domain provided by MasseyHacks to host our website.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was when a few issues arose while adding a CNAME to our .xyz domain. We were able to overcome this challenge by utilizing the resources available to us, such as mentors from MasseyHacks. In the end, we were able to successfully host our website through this domain without any issue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
With all of our team members being relatively new to coding, we are proud of the fact that we managed to create our very own website. The hackathon experience is definitely a unique one that we enjoyed trying out, and trying new things is somewhat of an accomplishment in itself as well.
What we learned
Throughout the process of preparing for MasseyHacks, and creating our website during the hackathon, we learned basic coding skills and how to use them to create things. As a team, we also grew closer together through this experience and most importantly, had fun.
What's next for Kickzinthe.6ix?
Although we only created a basic outline of a website, we feel that this was due to our lack of experience with coding and web design. In the future, as we continue to grow and learn, we hope to be able to return to this project, and add more features to it. Some of the features in mind include newsletters for email notifications that users can sign up for, as well as setting up Shopify so users can make purchases directly through the website.
