Inspiration
In view of the recent events across the country , we decide to create a solution for the agricultural reforms in India. A large part of population still depends on the agriculture sector, making it crucial for innovation in tech and innovations. Due to the everchanging political climate and changing farm laws, Farmers across the country are facing the below problems:
- Lack of proper regulated channels for buying and selling.
- Lack of awareness among farmers about market prices.
- Non enforcement of government rules.
- Middle man mediation.
Over 70 % rural households depend on agriculture. Agriculture is an important sector of Indian economy as it contributes about 17% to the total GDP and provides employment to over 60% of the population. Any thing to damage this balance would be catastrophic. We intend to help our target audience – the farmers by creating a one step solution to buy goods and sell crops.
What it does
Khet Market is a WebApp through which farmers can sell crops to and buy equipment directly from other merchants without any third-party mediation. To avoid price inflation and maintain regularized selling, the app validates any purchase through the use of MSP for pricing and the buyer must adhere to it.
The app also incorporates image integration for crops so the buyer can decide whether to proceed with the transaction. The app also incorporate payment authentication which help both parties avoid extra middleman costs and helps in creating of a completely self – independent virtual market space to empower both the buyer and seller.
How we built it
The technology stack used for building this app is as follows:
- React – Frontend
- Firebase - Backend & DBMS
- Material-UI – Visual customization
The WebApp is sub-divided into sections of pages which are arranged in the logical order of a user transaction. There are a total of 10 pages in the WebApp namely:
- Home Page
- Login
- Register
- BuyOrSell
- Buy
- Checkout
- Payment
- Orders
- Sell
- Selling Item
The Flowchart attached in the other media will help you understand the flow of the app.
Challenges we ran into
Since we are mostly focussed currently on building the web app, the other business model problems such as Logistics and Transport have not been completely feasibly sorted out. We are trying to solve the above by creating a business model plan in the near future.
Currently we do not have access and authorization to the government API for real time updating of the MSP. So we are updating it manually from publicly available official government pricelist for validation link.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The app makes people aware of the current market prices and makes them aware of their goods worth along with regulating the sales, both helping the community and can be scaled up to a fully working solution for business ventures.
We are creating a safe, regulated and fully virtual platform which acts as a self-independent marketplace exclusively for farmers.
What we learned
During the research phase of our project, we learned about the various technicalities the farmers in India have to face to get their validation such as khasra number and get their products sold along with a deep understanding of farm regulations.
We also explored the possibility of scaling this project into a fully incubated startup and learned about various business modelling strategies and plans for making it possible along with logistics and sources of revenue.
We gained a deeper understanding of React app building along with implementation with firebase.
What's next for Khet Market
- Integration of multiple languages
- Introduction of Merchants as a client.
- Integration of Government API for dynamic updating of MSP.
- Creating a business model canvas and pipeline for future ventures.
