Inspiration

Health apps today are either too generic or too complicated. I wanted to create something that feels like a friendly AI companion — one that talks with you naturally, remembers your habits, and nudges you toward healthier choices without judgment.

The idea for Khayr came when I noticed that most people (myself included) ignore health until something goes wrong. One of the most common and stressful questions people face is: “Should I see a doctor?”. Khayr helps answer that with a smart symptom checker while also guiding users in their everyday health journey.

What I Learned

  • Simplicity wins — users don’t want to fill endless forms; they want quick, conversational flows.
  • AI with memory is powerful — when an app recalls your past entries, it feels personal and alive.
  • Notifications matter — timing, tone, and creativity can make or break engagement.

I also deepened my skills in:

  • Flutter for smooth cross-platform UI
  • AI integrations for chat and assessments
  • RevenueCat for subscription and monetization setup

How I Built It

  • Frontend: Flutter (for iOS & Android)
  • AI Layer: Integrated a conversational AI with lightweight memory storage for personalization
  • Backend: Firebase (auth, real-time DB, push notifications)
  • Monetization: RevenueCat for subscription management and in-app purchases
  • Design: Minimal, Gen Z–friendly interface with focus on clarity

Challenges

  • AI Memory: Designing a lightweight way to store and retrieve past user interactions without overwhelming the database.
  • Onboarding Flow: Striking the balance between educating users about features and not boring them.
  • Notifications: Avoiding repetitive, “robotic” pushes — instead crafting messages that feel like an actual health companion.
  • Time Pressure: I wanted to launch an MVP quickly (within 2 weeks), so prioritizing features was tough.

The Journey Ahead

Khayr has just launched as an MVP. My next goals are:

  • Expanding AI memory to offer more personalized insights.
  • Growing the user base organically through community and content.
  • Testing monetization strategies with RevenueCat to sustain and scale the product.
