Inspiration

We all enjoy exploring the various diverse locations and small businesses that Charlotteville has to offer, so we were inspired by that.

What it does

Keyp In Touch creates custom, location-specific keychains embedded with QR codes, allowing users to access exclusive information about a place simply by scanning. We designed and 3D-printed keychains for Charlottesville’s Dairy Market and Downtown area, making it easy for travelers to carry their memories wherever they go.

How we built it

We designed and printed our keychains using CAD software, our website was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and UX/UI design principles to create an enjoyable user experience, and we used QR code integration in order to direct users to an interactive webpage with historical details and digital collectibles.

Challenges we ran into

Finding the right 3D printing materials to ensure keychains were durable yet lightweight

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to successfully 3D-printed and designed location-based keychains, create a visually engaging and user-friendly web platform, and Developed an interactive digital sticker feature, rewarding users when they scan their keychain.

What we learned

The importance of UX/UI design in making digital experiences intuitive and enjoyable, how to integrate physical objects with digital content using QR codes, and how to better optimize 3D printing (including size constraints and material efficiency.)

What's next for Keyp In Touch

We'd like to integrate tap-to-access NFC chips for an even smoother experience, expand to more locations, include more interactive features, and explore more eco-friendly ways of creating our keychains to ensure Keyp In Touch remains environmentally responsible.
