Inspiration
Two electricals, one chem e, and a comp sci student got together to do their first ever hackathon together. Victoria, the comp sci, wanted to make a dabbing robot. Kaleb, the electrical engineer, talked about a plant. Everybody loves plant. But, everyone LOVES a tweeting plant. Thus, Kevin the Kakti was born.
What it does
At X minutes, Kevin is able to tweet when it has been watered (by the press of a button), if it is too hot/too cold, if there is too much/too little sun or if it notices someone in front of him.
How we built it
Kevin was lovingly handmade with the Arduino microcontroller, an additional ethernet shield (to connect to twitter), jumper wires, breadboard, capacitors, resistors, ultrasonic sensor, temperature sensor, photocell (light dependent) sensor.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, we were going to implement a moisture sensor with Kevin so it can alert whenever he needs water. However, we had the wrong hardware component to implement this, so an alternative button function was made. Combining the use of twitter and all the other functions were a challenge as well.
