Project Inspiration

My inspiration for this project comes from my curiosity about hardware and technical components. I realized that many people like me want to explore hardware and electrical engineering but do not always have access to the opportunities or tools needed to get started. With this website, users can build their own projects, explore their curiosity, and learn about different electrical components.

Another inspiration was design. Out of curiosity about hardware, I once opened my controller and discovered the sophisticated PCB inside. I started wondering how long it took engineers to design something so complex and how they decided where every component should go. Hopefully, with this website, AI can help change the way PCBs are designed in the future.

What My Website Does

This website allows users to type a prompt describing what they want their PCB to do and what components they want it to include. Using AI, the website analyzes the user's request and determines what additional components may be necessary to accomplish the goal. It then helps lay out the PCB and its components efficiently.

How I Built It

I built this website using AI and the OpenRouter API. After creating the website with AI, I had to connect the API so that the website could process different prompts and generate responses.

One of the biggest challenges was managing the API. I originally tried using the Gemini Free API, but after many attempts, it was not working well enough for my project. I eventually switched to OpenRouter's free API, which worked better for my project and was more efficient for what I needed.

Another challenge was the number of features I wanted to add. As I continued developing the website, I kept coming up with new ideas and features, which made the project more complicated but also helped me learn more.

Accomplishments

One accomplishment I am especially proud of is the project as a whole. Building KeshComponents took a lot of time, effort, and problem-solving. I am also proud of successfully integrating an API into the website. This allows users to enter different prompts instead of being limited to a few predetermined options, making the website much more flexible and interactive.

What I Learned

One of the biggest things I learned from this experience is how important APIs can be when building websites that need to handle unpredictable user input. Users can ask for almost anything, so having AI connected to the website allows it to understand those requests and help generate useful responses.

I also learned that building a project like this involves a lot of trial and error. Things do not always work on the first attempt, and sometimes you have to completely change your approach, like I did when I switched from Gemini to OpenRouter.

What's Next

Hopefully, the next step for KeshComponents is to continue improving the website by making it more efficient, faster, and more accurate. My long-term goal is for KeshComponents to make PCB design more accessible to everyone and, eventually, help change the way people design PCBs forever.
