One of the pressing concerns of education is plagiarism, “Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement” (University of Oxford). Over the years, many students are fond of copying other past students’ project work and claiming it as their own. Project files copied may constitute project report (write up), project source code and database schema. The Ideal solution to this menace is the manual comparison of all project files by the project coordinator, but to be realistic doing this is virtually impossible as it will require a lot of work considering the large number of students doing projects every year, also the accuracy of doing it manually cannot be guaranteed. Therefore this research is done in a bid to develop software that will be used to easily and efficiently detect plagiarism in project write-ups, source codes and database schemas by comparing each student’s project files with an archive of other project files from both current and previous academic sessions.
